Praise the Lord—Amy is out of surgery.
After a long and complex day, I’m grateful to share that Amy is now in the ICU recovering from transplant surgery. The lead surgeon came out and shared that everything went well. While the procedure required many intricate connections and took significant time, there were no complications, and he was pleased with how Amy’s body handled everything.
Due to the additional bowel procedure earlier in the day, Amy may need to remain in the ICU a bit longer than usual. However, the team currently anticipates that she will stay in the hospital for around 14 days, depending on how her body responds and how the healing progresses.
From what I’ve learned, the first 24 to 48 hours after a liver transplant are critical for monitoring how the new liver functions, managing pain and fluid levels, and preventing early signs of rejection or infection. Amy will receive frequent lab work, scans, and constant monitoring during this time to ensure everything is on track. Once she stabilizes, she’ll transition from the ICU to a regular transplant unit, where she will begin the longer road of recovery and rehabilitation.
The surgeon was encouraged by her progress so far and believes she is in a good position to move forward.
We are profoundly grateful for your prayers, encouragement, and love. I’ll share another update tomorrow once I have more information, but for now, we’re relieved and giving thanks to our Great God.
Please continue to pray:
- For a smooth and stable recovery in the ICU
- For the new liver to function well in Amy’s body
- For rest and healing—for Amy and also for the donor
- For wisdom and stamina for the medical team
- For peace for our family as we begin the next chapter of this journey
By His grace and for His glory,
James
