We finally received some clarity yesterday. The doctors have confirmed that what Amy is experiencing is ACR (Acute Cellular Rejection), a common issue among transplant patients in the early weeks post-surgery. This was determined after reviewing the liver biopsy results, which were completed Tuesday evening.
In response, they began treatment yesterday with a high-dose steroid protocol, along with an adjusted regimen of anti-rejection medications. This is the standard course for treating ACR, and the team feels confident that we’ve identified the issue and started the right plan.
Amy continues to struggle with headaches, but yesterday the pain was less intense than what she experienced earlier this week. Later in the day, she was able to get up, walk around the unit, and even started to feel a little bit more like herself. We’re thankful for that small but meaningful progress.
Even with the challenges that come each day, we’re also seeing moments of hope and healing, signs that her body is still fighting forward and responding.
Alongside the biopsy, the team also conducted several other tests yesterday, including a CT scan. The scan revealed the recurrence of a hernia, which had been present in the past. The team is still reviewing the liver-specific findings from the scan to determine whether any additional adjustments or procedures will be needed. We expect to know more soon.
As always, I cannot thank you enough for your prayers, encouragement, and interest in Amy’s recovery. You’ve walked this road with us, and that has made all the difference.
I would also like to pause again and express our continued gratitude to the anonymous donor. This incredible act of selfless love has changed Amy’s life, and ours. Please continue to pray for them.
Recovery for liver donors typically takes about 6 to 8 weeks, though it can vary depending on the individual. While Amy heals, we’re also praying that the donor is gaining strength, experiencing peace, and achieving full healing. Please do not forget them.
With all our gratitude,
James
